The gearbox on this 50A capstan is a two stage design with a spur gear
first stage and a worm gear final stage with total reduction of 55:1.
The unit with a 1160 rpm motor
will give 22 rpm's or about 45 feet per minute (fpm) in haul speed on the rope.

The unit (below as pictured) is 31" long total and 18" wide total and 22" tall. Just the gearbox is 11.75" Long, 12.5" wide and 12" tall. The mounting plate is 16' x 16" with 14 bolt holes for 3/8" bolts. The cathead is 10" tall. The diameter at the very top is 8.5" and at the very bottom it is 10.5" in diameter. In the middle, where the rope wraps around it, it is 7 inches in diameter. The serial # of this particular unit is 50-1483-OS. The housing number is 293. It weighs 400 pounds as it sits in the pictures. The slower motors are larger in diameter. If flush mounted, the motor will be right up under the deck and the deck should not be thicker than 3/8 plate. If flush mounted, there will be two bolts that will be a challenge up at the top of the motor face.
This unit has a new Baldor 5hp motor running at 1160 rpm,
capable of 208, 230/460 VAC at 17/15.8/7.9 amps.
Completely
disassembled and rebuilt with new bearings and seals.
Gear case was blasted inside and out, primed and finished internally
and externally in medium gray.
All bearings are brand new, all gears in like new condition with no rust spots, pitting,
visual or measurable wear.
Most hardware is stainless with copper or brass sealing flat washers.
Filled with Texaco Meropa 460 (AGMA #7) and run tested.
Was on amphibious military equipment which was hardly used at all. More

Lubrication stickers installed, safety stickers will be shipped in the crate for application in proper location at time of
installation.
