Vertical Electric Capstan

5 hp Pacemaker electric motor with rear close coupled or mounted shaft brake, starter and push button (on/off) switch is set up to run on 230V only. Motor is 860 rpm and looks very new, as does the shaft brake, which I believe is a Sterns Brake.
Starter and switch look new also. Motor, Starter, Switch and brake are all under a stainless steel, weather tight cover with a
large bolted access hatch / cover and a smaller hinged access cover for quick access to the on/off switch. The unit's gear oil was checked on 5/18/10 and found to be clean and in good condition. The unit was hooked up to 230V and the entire unit was tested and performed well (starter, switch, motor, brake, gearbox). The same oil was checked again after test and found to be just as clean. No loose play in the cathead, no odd noises in the gearbox or motor or brake. Unit runs well, cool and quietly.

The cathead on this unit turns at a no load speed of 6 rpm. The barrel of the head is 12" in diameter and has a measured circumference of 37 7/8".

The unit, at no load, will haul in 20.5 feet of rope, (figuring an effective head diameter of at least 13" to account (at least in part) for the rope to be wrapped around the head when pulling. Based on proven theroretical calculations (using 100% efficency) and also past experience from similarly powered (5 hp, 900 rpm) and geared units (factory rated and currently in inventory), it is thought that this unit will deliver 8061 pounds of line pull at 20.5 feet per minute. The calculated starting pull would be approximately 12,092 pounds (starting).

The unit appears to be complete and in great condition. All it needs to operate is a rope and some electricity.
